About Me

Norton_2023_0001-2.jpg

Hi Families,

My name is Corrine Norton. I have been a certified teacher since 2001. A few years ago, I became certified in Structured Multisensory Literacy. But what is that exactly? Essentially, I help children learn to read by teaching skills in a sequential way so that reading and spelling make sense! I also help your child with writing, improving fluency and sight word recognition. All of these skills combine to help your child become a capable reader and speller!

Kindness is king in my sessions! I provide a friendly approach, while ensuring your child is attaining measurable and consistent growth.  Your child’s happiness and academic success are my top priorities.

Is your child a wiggler? Neurodiverse? I incorporate movement breaks and games into lessons and offer incentives to help kids stay on task. I’ve always had a soft spot for kids who learn differently and will work with your family to make sure we find the best, most encouraging way for your child to learn.

Certifications

"CERI recognizes IDA Accredited Programs, which have undergone a rigorous vetting process designed to ensure that program graduates have mastered core KPS-aligned knowledge and practice competencies associated with preventing reading failure and remediating off track readers- including readers at-risk for, and identified with, Dyslexia."

The Approach

What is Orton-Gillingham?

Orton–Gillingham (aka OG) is a teaching approach that was designed to help struggling readers. It explicitly teaches the connections between letters and sounds. As a student progresses, we work on word prefixes and suffixes, spelling strategies, and grammar and writing.

As a tutor, I will assess your student to see where he or she is performing, so that I can identify the best place to begin instruction. Clients tend to notice growth within a few weeks of beginning instruction.

Online tutoring can be a game changer for busy families or resistant learners. Zoom VideoChat makes sessions run smoothly.  Your child will work with me using a tailored Orton-Gillingham program to work on all the important elements of an OG lesson. This also includes learning to read and spell sight words and learning to read fluently.

There are many reasons a child may opt out of a traditional school setting. If you need a full year educator for one or more subjects at least 4 days a week at a set time, I have 20 years of teaching experience and am certified in New Jersey and Illinois to teach grades Kindergarten-Sixth. I can also supplement an online curriculum with explicit reading and writing instruction.

1-1 In-Person Tutoring

What
Students &
Parents Say

Corrine helped my fifth grade son build his confidence in reading. Her personalized, caring approach was just what he needed. She taught him techniques to figure out harder words and taught him spelling rules and patterns. Reading is now a pleasure rather than a chore! Corrine is also a great communicator, so I always know what my son is working on and his progress. She is one of his biggest cheerleaders along with us! It has made a world of difference!
